The Olympics are Coming

Last Thursday, the 31st May 2012, the olympics came to my town.

Having applied for tickets last year and been unsuccessful, and hearing about all the money being spent and the chaos that will ensue, and how millions of tickets are now up for grabs as sponsorship prizes even though I was willing to pay for them - you could say that I wasn't embracing the Olympics to it's full potential. However, when the torch relay came to town I joined the crowds and lined the streets with the rest of them (although admittedly I didn't wave a miniature flag). Seeing the excitement build as the opening ceremony grows ever closer, I only wish that I had gotten those elusive tickets. Something fantastic will be going on down in London this summer and I would've loved to be part of the atmosphere as it is, as has been said throughout the torch relay coverage, a once in a lifetime experience. To experience a world event literally metres from home was quite special and enough for me to appreciate that the Olympics are well and truly coming despite the traffic problems, despite the money, despite me not getting tickets. It made me remember too that a few years back I designed something up about the London Olympics. The design was loosely based on the union jack and inspired by the media hype surrounding this global event. The torch relay revamped my original enthusiasm for Britain hosting the games and I truly hope that the London Olympics are as unforgettable as I originally hoped.
